Beat Plateaus: From Accuracy to Speed
Summary: Speed follows accuracy. This guide shows how to move from clean technique to higher WPM using phased drills, rhythm training, and weekly mini‑tests.
Phase 1: Accuracy Lock‑in
Spend a week at a comfortable pace where your accuracy is at least 97%. Use short passages and stop if you feel tense. The goal is to make correct keystrokes automatic.
- Keep shoulders relaxed.
- Eyes one word ahead.
- Let errors pass; don’t chase them.
Phase 2: Rhythm & Vision
Introduce a metronome or background beat. Your aim is a steady rhythm, not speed bursts. Visualize the next word while finishing the current one.
Phase 3: Controlled Push
Once accuracy stays above 96%, push to +10–15 WPM for short bouts. Record your best streaks and stop before technique collapses.
Weekly Mini‑Test
Every 7 days, run three 60‑second tests. Keep the best. If it’s flat for two weeks, return to Phase 1 for a reset.
